Before joining American Rivers, Denise worked in development for the American Diabetes Association, managing donor relations and helping support key diabetes research projects. She also worked in development with Feed the Children where she enjoyed helping prevent childhood hunger in the United States and in developing countries internationally. Her work included travel to Africa visiting orphanages that FTC sponsored thanks to the support of many generous donors. In her spare time, Denise enjoys hiking with her family and trail running for her sanity! Denise welcomes any opportunity to travel and is delighted to be working at American Rivers.
Education: B.A., Communication Studies from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA and an MBA from Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, OK
Favorite River: Shenandoah River
River Story: I grew up water skiing on a local lake in my hometown of Abingdon, Virginia. I have wonderful memories of boating with my family and learning solo kayaking as an adult. I appreciate navigating the Shenandoah River and spending time in nature, just absorbing the beauty, and feeling a sense of adventure at each outing.
